NEXT EVENT

The next Scottish Writers’ Centre event at the CCA in Glasgow is on Thursday, 18 February, as ever at 7pm. This month, we shall be in the Club Room, up on Level 2.  Full details below.

We regret that, for funding-related reasons, we can hold these events only in Glasgow at the moment – but we remain both national and international in outlook.  Should people elsewhere be in a position to invite the writers involved in this series to read in other parts of Scotland or, indeed, the world, please simply get in touch and we shall try to make it happen.

Celebrating William Stafford

Thursday, 18 February at 7pm

CCA, 350 Sauchiehall Street Glasgow

Club Room, Level 2

ADMISSION FREE

William Stafford was born in Kansas in 1914, author of over 50 books, recipient of the National Book Award; a lifetime pacifist and conscientious objector in World War II when he began his habit of writing a poem before dawn everyday; Poetry Consultant for the Library of Congress (1970 – 1971); appointed Oregon Poet Laureate in 1975.

The evening will include a short film, and the readers will include two Glasgow/Americans: Larry Butler & Donna Blackney. Anyone attending is invited to read a favourite William Stafford poem. If you don’t know his work, have a look at: http://www.williamstafford.org

The event will finish by 8.30pm – but discussions can continue in the bar.

The Scottish Writers’ Centre is grateful to the CCA and to Culture & Sport Glasgow for their generous support of its work.
